Everyone is familiar with muscle strains, but they can be more than just an annoyance. A muscle strain typically manifests itself in the form of pain that makes it hard to move. What is a Muscle Strain?

Muscle strains are powerful injuries that occur due to overuse. The body is not designed to withstand the amount of pressure that it undergoes when you strain or pull a muscle.
Treatment for Muscle Strains

If it is mild, rest and ice will help to reduce the pain and swelling. If it is moderate, you may need crutches or a temporary splint. The most common cause of pain in the neck, shoulder, upper back, and lower back is muscular strain. This pain is often caused when muscles are overworked or strained to do repetitive movements. Treatment for this type of strain may include rest, ice therapy, over-the-counter medications like ibuprofen or acetaminophen (Tylenol), and stretching exercises like neck rolls.
